Wild Alaskan Salmon -
Why You Should Eat It
(And Avoid Farm-Raised Salmon).

Wild Alaskan Sockeye Salmon Wild Alaskan salmon should be a major part of everyone's diet. Why? The health benefits of this deep-water fish are so plentiful, I simply don't know where to start (or end).

Every health and wellness practitioner out there, from Andrew Weil, M.D., Nicholas Perricone, M.D., Joseph Mercola, D.O., Christiane Northrup, M.D., William Sears, M.D., Mark Hyman M.D. to Mehmet Oz, M.D., has been promoting the health benefits of salmon for years.

Studies have determined that we all, in order to be healthy, need to include lots of omega-3 fatty acids in our diets. When it comes to omega-3s, wild salmon is one of the best sources.

Wild salmon is delicious, high in protein, widely available in canned form, easy to prepare, and, more important, high in beneficial omega-3s. If you're not a fish eater, or find you can't eat it often enough, high-quality wild Alaskan salmon oil is your best bet.

The Difference
between Farm-Raised
and Wild Alaskan Salmon

Not just any salmon will do. Wild Alaskan salmon, found in the deep, cold ocean waters, is the best. But, what about the farmed fish that accounts the majority of the salmon available to us? Here's a comparison of farmed versus wild Alaskan Salmon:

  • ANTIBIOTICS - according to The Audubon's Living Oceans Campaign, farmed fish are fed more antibiotics per pound of 'livestock' than are any other farmed animal.
  • DIOXINS AND PCBs - studies have found that farmed fish may contain up to 16-times the amount of these cancer-causing chemicals as wild salmon.
  • COPPER SULFATE (used to kill algae on the nets)
  • CANTHAXANTHIN (a dye used to add that pink color to the naturally gray farmed fish - the FDA has labeled it unsafe).
  • ARACHIDONIC ACID (causes inflammation in humans)
  • HIGH LEVELS OF OMEGA-6 FATTY ACIDS (relative to the Omega 3's that you really want). Because farm-raised fish eat cereal grains that are so high in omega-6 fatty acids, their flesh is also disproportionately high in omega-6 fatty acids.
  • Farm-raised salmon is one of the MOST INFLAMMATORY FISH you can eat!
  • Rated "AVOID" by leading environmental organizations.

  • HIGH LEVELS OF OMEGA-3 FATTY ACIDS - Omega-3s provide so many health benefits: helps blood clot, repairs tissue damage caused by clogged arteries, lowers triglycerides and high blood pressure, and protects the body from autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis.
  • VITAMIN D - contains four times more vitamin D than farm-raised fish, according to independent tests by researchers at Boston University. Vitamin D builds strong bones, prevents several types of cancer and much more! Wild salmon is one of the richest food sources! For more information on this overlooked nutrient, please refer to my page on foods rich in Vitamin D!
  • ASTAXANTHIN - a powerful anti-inflammatory carotenoid that comes from the salmon's natural diet of algae and wild shrimp. This is the compound that gives wild Alaskan salmon its characteristic pink-orange color.
  • Wild salmon is one of the most ANTI-INFLAMMATORY FOODS you can eat!
  • Rated a"BEST SEAFOOD CHOICE" by Marine Stewardship Council, Environmental Defense, the Blue Ocean Institute, the Monterey Bay Aquarium and many other leading environmental organizations.

Finding high-quality wild caught salmon can be difficult and confusing. How can you be sure where it came from? Is it wild or farmed? Where was it caught? How has it been handled? A few years ago, The New York Times and a leading product-testing consumer magazine conducted an investigation to determine the origins of salmon sold. They found that a majority of the fish sold as "wild" is actually farmed raised!

So, how can you be sure you're getting the real deal? You can do what I do - place your trust in the folks at Vital Choice Wild Seafood and Organics. I have been ordering the absolute best and most delicious wild Alaskan salmon products from this company for years. Vital Choice carries sustainably harvested seafood products of superior quality at a fair price.

Salmon is the healthiest high protein food of all, powerfully anti-inflammatory, a uniquely powerful antioxidant, and a rare dietary source of DMAE...I always recommend wild-harvested Alaskan salmon, because it offers a far healthier fat profile than farmed salmon.

Vitalchoice.com is my favorite source for wild Alaskan salmon, sablefish, sardines, and other fish rich in omega-3s... I can't tell you how many messages I get from people thanking me for recommending Vital Choice.
