There's always something that happens in your life that makes you go down the path you go, makes you choose the life you choose. For me, I think watching a close family member's health decline as she aged, and finding myself unable to help, ultimately led me to where I am today.
For most of my grandmother's life, she had enjoyed good health. But then, one day, she was diagnosed with high blood pressure. So, when her doctor wrote her a prescription for pills, she ran and got it filled.
But, guess what. That medication had an annoying side effect - it made her dizzy. So, her doctor then wrote her a prescription for another pill to treat the dizziness. But then that pill caused stomach problems. Guess what. Another pill for that. Each new pill she took came with a new side-effect, and the combination of all those pills created even more unwanted side-effects.
What started as one problem and one pill ended up as many problems and many pills. She spent the last 20 years of her life (her golden years), completely obsessed with all her health problems and associated pills.
What's so sad is that we all know people in that same situation - maybe it's even you. Watching my grandmother go through this, I knew there must be a better way. So, I started reading everything I could get my hands on about health and wellness. I soon learned that we DO have control over our health and wellness.
We can, absolutely and positively, prevent certain ailments as well as heal ourselves from others! Unfortunately, western medicine in the United States still mainly focuses on treating illness with drugs or surgery, and prevention and lifestyle change aren't stressed nearly enough.
Professionally, I've done a lot of different things in my life. I started out with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, and got a job in customer service for a health insurance company. That was followed by a stint in technical writing, then advertising sales.
Over the course of the years, I realized I was not doing what I was put on this earth to do - help others get and stay healthy. I started a personal chef service, cooking for people with health issues. It was through this that I really came to appreciate the relationship between what we eat and our wellness. I was inspired to go to nursing school, to learn all I could about health and the human body.
As a registered nurse, working in a hospital cardiac unit, I had countless patients tell me they wished they could turn back the clock and have a second chance to live a healthier life. So many of these people had chronic conditions that were slowly killing them. It was so hard for me to see, because I knew this did not need to be the end for these people. I left the hospital, received my certification in Wellness Coaching, and startingputting together this website.
My various personal and professional experiences over the years have all added up to take me to this place, a place where I can share what I've learned with you, and hopefully help you to help yourself, so that you can make the changes you need to help you become the healthiest and happiest you.
I sincerely hope you gain the inspiration, knowledge and guidance here to make lasting (and healthy) lifestyle changes!
