As a Registered Nurse, I understand the science behind a healthy lifestyle. And, as a Certified Health and Wellness Coach (with a degree in Psychology), I understand that having all the right information means zip if you can't get yourself to do anything with it.
I have the know-how and experience to help you help yourself (namely to get your hand out of the bag of chips and your backside off the couch, and to take action).
I think what makes me most qualified to help you, however, is that I am a human being - one with flaws and faults and insecurities. I understand what it is to have weaknesses that seem impossible to overcome.
I understand how hard it is to always do the right things and how angry I feel when I let myself down. I've learned to accept that no one is perfect and creating a better lifestyle is a process that happens one day at a time.
People frequently say to me, "I've got to get healthy. I know I need to eat better and exercise more. But, honestly, I don't know what that means." That's one of the major reasons I started this website. To help people who want to help themselves but have no idea where to start !
Could it be any more confusing? I mean, what and how are you supposed to eat? Low carb? Low fat? Low calorie? Do you really need to calculate and record the grams and calories of every morsel you put into your mouth? Is eating for weight loss different from eating to stay well? Will you have to give up every food you've ever loved? Say it isn't so!
There are so many types of exercise, how do you pick one that you will actually WANT to do? And, is daily exercise REALLY necessary? What exactly are the benefits of physical activity? At the end of the day, is it all really worth it?
That leads us to your environment - your home and all the products you use in it, as well as those you use on your body. Every day we hear about another ingredient that causes cancer or some other horrible disease.
Let's not even get started on stress and all the bad stuff that will happen to you if you don't have precisely the right amount in your life. The list of things you MUST consider in your quest for health goes on and on. OK, DON'T PANIC!
That's why I'm here. I've sifted and sorted through the mind-boggling heaps of health information so you don't have to. Why have I decided to take on this monumental task? Well, for purely selfish reasons, I've been obsessed with healthy living for as long as I can remember. And, I really want to share all that I've learned with you. Why should you have to reinvent the wheel?
This website is for those of you who are struggling to take control of your health. It is also for those of you who aren't necessarily struggling, but who just want a fun place to learn and share.
